Meko's Overnight Field Trip: A Cultural Getaway to Nagano
2025-10-28

Recently nearly 30 of our students and staff members embarked on an unforgettable two-day adventure to Nagano Prefecture — marking Meko’s largest field trip to date!

Our journey began with a visit to Shinshu Honan College, where students had the opportunity to learn more about the school’s programs and meet both faculty members and current students. It was an inspiring chance to practice Japanese in a real-world setting and make new connections outside the classroom.

After our campus visit, we continued on to Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan’s most iconic historical landmarks. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and mountain scenery, students enjoyed exploring the castle grounds and taking photos before we made our way to our accommodation for the night: a traditional ryokan complete with Japanese-style rooms, local meals, and a relaxing onsen experience.

The next morning, we set out early for Kamikochi, a breathtaking highland valley known for its clear rivers and stunning mountain views. Here, students were able to take in the fresh air, explore Japan’s natural beauty, and experience a very different side of the country — far from the busy streets of Tokyo.

This field trip was not only a fun and memorable getaway, but also a valuable opportunity for our students to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture, language, and education.
